DOLPHIN BRANCH

SUBMARINERS ASSOCIATION

Submariners Association

The Submariners Association, formerly the Submarine Old Comrades Association, is an organization open to all former and present submariners. It is officially recognized by the Ministry of Defence and enjoys the firm support of Flag Officer Submarines who is Honorary Vice President of the Association. Its objectives are:

  1. To promote and support the RN Submarine Service and its heritage.
  2. To foster the friendships and comradeship peculiar to all submariners so that they may continue to share the experiences and associations, and to keep alive that pride in the Submarine Branch, formed during their service in HM submarines.
  3. To promote and foster relationships with submariners of other countries.
  4. To enhance the well being of submariners past and present and their families.
  5. To promote and support the Submariners Benevolent Fund. (This is a fund maintained by the Trustees of the Royal Navy Submarine Museum to help past and present submariners and their dependants who are in need.)

The Association holds an Annual Reunion open to all full members and an annual Remembrance Service and parade at the National Submarine Memorial on Victoria Embankment. Branches also hold their own local commemorative and social events. During the centennial year, the Association will be represented at the major events.

There is arguably no other branch of the Royal Navy in which officers and ratings live so closely together or are so dependant upon each other for the efficient and safe operation of their vessels. It is only fitting that their official association should represent and be supported by “all ranks” both serving and retired.

The Dolphin Branch of the Submarines Association

The Dolphin branch of the Submariners Association was inaugurated in November 24th 2001 to enable those serving and those who have served, who cannot attend their local branch but wish to continue their association with the service.

The branch Chairman Mr Colin “The Bear” Way reports that the branch membership presently stands at 260 Officers and Ratings, both serving and retired, and that the membership is growing daily.

Colin intends to publish a regular newsletter, both through these pages and via the post to branch members – watch this space!!! Membership details can be obtained from:
