The Men

Crew photographs showing submariners from the Royal Navy's first submarine, Holland 1, to images from the First and Second World Wars to modern day crews of the Vanguard-class. Many images held depict the atrocious living conditions that submariners endured, but many show the more light hearted events which were part of every day life such as the 'Crossing the Line' ceremonies. The images relating to the 'head' (toilet) shows how complicated a procedure 'flushing' was. If the routine was not carried out correctly you 'got your own back'!!
